We strike Gold with Eden Mill’s Love Gin!

Despite the ongoing gloom of Covid-19 in our lives during the year, there has been certain moments of pure contentment…one being scooping a Gold in the Harpers Design Awards for Eden Mill’s Love Gin!

Recognising the very best across the industry, winning in these awards represents a major achievement and we are delighted, for both ourselves and our friends at Eden Mill, to have come away with a top honour.
Our entry this year, which was in the Repackaged category, reflects Eden Mill’s decision to change the packaging of its premium pink spirit, Love Gin, from ceramic to glass. The move was in response to trade and consumer feedback, while enabling Eden Mill to also benefit from some important supply chain efficiencies.

In meeting the brief, two lightweight glass bottle options were designed – a 70cl for trade and a 50cl for retail. Using 18% less glass than most other spirit bottles, plus being more easily recycled than ceramic, the glass bottles attract a lower carbon footprint, thereby allowing Eden Mill to emphasise its sustainability commitment.

The packaging provides an on-brand glass solution that not only complements Eden Mill’s existing range, but also reinforces their heritage in a striking and stylish way. Featuring a distinctive, crystal cut dimple effect, the design ties into the tradition of St Andrews and golf, replicating the style of bottle previously used on the Eden Mill distillery site back in the 1800s. The transparent bottle, which includes a printed shield label design on the front and a white cork stopper as a closure, allows the natural colour of the alcohol to shine through, while the dimpling adds extra elegance.

As an impressive commercial/sales benchmark, online sales of Love Gin in glass packaging doubled over the period February-June 2020, compared to the same period in 2019 using ceramic bottles.
An additional benefit of the new packaging is having the ability to release more seasonal Love Gin products in glass bottles than in ceramic. It’s more efficient from a supply chain perspective for Eden Mill to use glass bottles, therefore seasonal sales and releases have also benefitted.

The new glass bottles have also allowed Eden Mill to stay listed with both Tesco and Sainsbury’s, as each look to suppliers to increase product sustainability.

A big thanks to Eden Mill for their help in the awards process and also to our PR people, Marbles PR, who crafted the winning entry!

What a result – happy days all round!
