Our friends at award-winning gin distillers, Silent Pool, have released their latest expression – Silent Pool Rare Citrus Gin – and, happily again, Croxsons has had a part to play in its creation.
Being the first major launch under the Silent Pool Gin brand since the iconic teal and copper bottle shook-up the craft gin scene back in 2014, the stakes were particularly high for this second release.
This expression, which contains some of the world’s rarest citrus fruits, is crafted from unusual fruits from around the world, including Asian citrus fruits hirado buntan, natsudaidai and Buddha’s hand, and green Seville orange. The fruits are sourced from citrus collectors on Portugal’s Alentejo coast, where more than 300 citrus varieties are grown.
The gin is distilled using Silent Pool’s four-tiered method, the resulting gin is zesty and vibrant and is bottled, showcasing the botanicals and citrus fruits in, what is now a trademark Silent Pool look.
For the primary packaging and its decoration, our close relationship with leading Design & Innovation Consultancy, Seymourpowell, has been instrumental in delivering a bottle that captures the intricate and intriguing essence of the gin. It is instantly recognisable as a Silent Pool Gin but also distinctly different from the iconic, classic teal bottle.
Opting for a warm and sophisticated terracotta colourway, the bottle emphasises the rich citrus notes that the four fruits bring to the flavour profile. The familiar botanical design has been recrafted to include the visual representations of each fruit and reflect the top, mid and base citrus notes of the recipe. The bottle, incorporating a glass stopper, is distinctive, iconic and desirable, emphasising Silent Pool’s passion for creativity and excellence.
Judging by the reviews, Silent Pool has nailed it again with this release…
‘The rare citrus in this gin comes from varieties such as Hirado Buntan, natsudaidai, Buddha’s hand and green Seville orange, making it vibrant, sweet and delicious.’ 2/61 in GQ Magazine’s ‘The 61 best gins for the perfect gin and tonic’ – 11 October 2020.
Ian McCulloch, co-founder of Silent Pool Gin, said: “At the beginning of 2020 we predicted that citrus gins would be a trend within the premium drinks category and we’re delighted to introduce our Rare Citrus Gin to the market and to the Silent Pool family. This is not a flavoured gin, but rather a masterfully blended spirit that is both aromatic and unique in taste.”
